Aphorist

A deck-based 1 vs 1 battle game with a customizable deck system and a strategic combat system.

Overview

In this game, two magic casters battle using one of eight different elements, of which they can use across three lanes with three degrees of power each. Player expend mana to both cast offensive spells as well as manifest barriers to protect themselves from the opponents attack.

Before battle, players create a deck of 15 spells, choosing freely from the existing elements. When both players are ready, combat begins.

Player then have a back-and-forth using magic attacks and barriers while managing their mana resource until a player is hit directly, which will end the game.

Development

This project reached initial completion in 2020. Though it is not yet content complete, it is feature complete.

For this project, the focus was to integrate my building VFX skills as well as to create a project that showcased UI/UX skills. Additionally, I took the opportunity to experiment with 2D rigs and character silhouettes to convey action without dedicating as much time and effort to graphics.
